Can't say that I remember being bothered by oil running down outside the filter, but have noticed that much more comes out of the cooler's drain plug if removing that one before the filter.

Just out of curiosity, what tire pressures did you run in that '18 2500?
LT tires at 80 psi (which dealers seem to like to leave them at) ride terrible with no load, compared to a 1500's lady like 36 psi in P-rated tires.
