We would race sometimes until right before sunrise when the world started waking up.
Cars were slower, the streets were worse but it was a hell of a time. There was a place under the I95 overpass that was open all night and had some great cheesesteaks.
If you're talking about in East Baltimore, that was The Circle Drive-in. It was on Dundalk Ave at Gusryan St.
We'd start out at the Thunderbird Drive-in in Essex, which I could walk to if I didn't have a car, meet up with some friends and hang out there until around 1130 or so. Then we'd head down to The Circle and hang out there the rest of the night. The I95 tunnel wasn't completed yet so that section of I95 was a great place to race. Hardly any traffic in the middle of the night. The Circle would be packed until around 4am when people would start leaving. Mr. Frank would keep it open as long as there was a crowd. That place was a gold mine for him at the time. It's been several other businesses since he sold it. It might've finallly been torn down.
edit: Looks like they tore it down afterall.
