Racers Chime In On Billet Rear Diff or 9 Inch DSS?

Which one do u guys prefer and why. I see with the DSS setup u can opt for different gear ratios. Do u guys select a different gear ratio if going DSS or do u guys prefer the Billet Diff. To my understanding the Billet diff doesn't have any special billet parts inside so its just a billet carrier so which ones do u guys prefer thanx. This is for my Trackhawk but same difference I guess.

I had the DSS 9” conversion in mine years ago. One problem you’ll have going that route with the factory trans is gear ratios. Yes the 9” has a ton of them but with the stronger pro gear, the 3.40 was numerically the lowest gear available. I think you could get a 3.25 with the 9.5”. There may be other gear ratio’s available now. You would have to search that. Personally I think a 3.00 Pro would be ideal for big hp and factory trans. The weak points with the factory rear are the case and the LSD. I’ve never heard of the ring and pinion being a problem. You can get a spool now for the factory unit now so that takes care of that and the billet case should be bulletproof. If I was keeping the 8 speed and not going the 400 route, I think I would opt for the billet case with the 3.09 and a spool. Another thing to consider with the factory rear vs a 9” is drivetrain power losses. The 9” is a power eater. You’ll see more power to the wheels with the factory gear.
