Yes, know the fuel dilution issues with them. Good thing is...Taxi doesn't see much short tripping 😂
Most of my trips...40 min one way..cool down for maybe 2hrs. max..then another 40 min back...that's it

It is what it is, regardless of the reasons. Reasons you assuming, in any case.
I never intend disrespect. My point is many people figure out what works, and if they are smart they stick with it. On the other hand, there are people that seem to have problems with everything. Cars, lawn mowers, power tools, appliances, everything. Some might call them "unlucky", but I have known some of them, I would call them "abusive and/or oblivious".

We can debate for weeks, but I don't think any of us will see any oil related problem, no matter what we do, because it is not about oil, it is about how we care about/for our cars. They are not tools, they are precious collectibles. :)

I bought 18.5 gallons of oil this week.

And not because all of a sudden I'll start changing it every six months, like the manual for many of them say I must, but some vehicles hold more than others. .

I don’t want to debate, either, but I am interested in hearing your theories on who killed JFK. It was the telephone company, wasn’t it?

I thought it was Hyman Roth that was behind that...(with the help of the Rosato bros.)

Nobody has ever lost an engine to bad oil, so pick the cheapest brand and run it if cost is of concern, otherwise whichever bottle looks prettiest to you.
You’ll lose an engine to too many miles on the oil, have seen that a few times. Never saw or heard of one that lost an engine to old oil… years old oil.

Run the right weight, change it every 10k, you’ll be fine.

If you’re running a significant level of ethanol, and it doesn’t get any miles, you have a different maintenance strategy altogether.

The low miles you guys put on these drives me nuts, btw. Go enjoy the damn things!:p

I did watch Project Farm do a review of several high end oils, and was surprised to see the standard Penzoil Synthetic beat it's higher end counter part I had been using as well as a couple other boutique oils. That's what I use in everything now except the 170 since I have a hookup at the dealer for that and it might be important to a future owner if I ever had to sell the car.

For something like oils I would trust The Motor Oil Geek's testing infinitely more than anybody else.

He’s supposed to actually be a tribologist. Project Farm is in over his head when testing motor oil, imo. PF states his tests are for entertainment purposes. His tests for simpler things seem valid, though.

Yeah, somebody that mixes up his own oil formulae (and for racing) must know a thing or three about what makes certain oils and additives tick.

I just wish I could comprehend more of all the good info he presents.

What stood out to me in the PF test was how well the standard synthetic flowed at freezing temp vs the Ultra. Anyway, it's what I use now but I've used some version of synthetic Penzoil for 15 years now. When I spent way too much time obsessing over oil several years ago oil analysis was great on the Penzoil oils compared to others, even better than Mobil1 which was also very good.

You can find all my posts over on BITOG using this same screen name lol. Glad that's behind me, and again if I could go back and tell myself not to waste the time I would

I've thought about just going to the Wal-Mart synthetic to be honest, but the price difference wasn't enough to make a change last I checked.

Now that's one test even I could do myself, and understand.

Were both oils the same grade?

I didn't start using synthetic until about 2017 or so. My '04 Wrangler developed a valve tick at low temp start-ups. My research found the back 2 lifters would gunk up, and you need to pull the head to clean/replace them, I didn't want to do that. I did the trans fluid flush, Rizlone, high detergent diesel oil, it got better but not completely. Then I started using synthetic, it stopped ticking after doing it for 5-6 years! Never bought conventional oil again!

I used Mobil Delvac in my Bobcat and tractor, then there was a sale on Shell Rotella T6, I bought several gallons. I immediately noticed, the oil would stay clear on the dipstick for months!!! All other oils turned black immediately. Don't understand, but I have been using T6 since!
