Yes, I resemble that remark also ;-) The ZFs are wonderful, technological marvels, BUT PUT A DAMN DIPSTICK IN IT!! My biggest complaint with these cars. Rant over.

Not only can check the level but you can see the condition of the fluid.

What's your opinion on a "factory sealed" trans?

I can't imagine what the fluid looks like (& smells like) after 100,000 miles.

I am dreading for my first one. Damn idiots at ZF have the fill & drain ports right by the RH exhaust. Put a damn dipstick in ZF!

you can’t fill it with the engine off, has to be running or the fluid will just pour out. It’s a pain, I had to top mine off after I did trans swap. You have to run it through the gears put in reverse, neutral and hold at a certain rpm to get everything to fill correctly all while pumping in fluid until it drips out. I put my wife up in the car in the car on my maxjax to run through the gears for me while I was pumping in the fluid, she was scared to death lol

What happened to stock trans? No way you should have needed a new one at your power level

Looking back, I should have just went with a th400 with a gear vendor
