View attachment 12791 I still can’t take a hammer to my car, my 315/50-17’s will just see track duty and I doubt anyone is going to notice 12 mm of extra stick out from the spacers I made so they don’t rub the rib. Nice write up though
Nice! How big are those? 12mm? make them yourself?

Do you have any side pictures to see how much it's poking out? I can't justify a hammer to my car as of yet either, but I'd like to run 315s too!

Started with 11 mm, they rubbed when cornering and upon being aired down to 18 psi in straight line so made another set at 14 mm. I drew the sketch, machine shop buddy made them for me. He’s making another set now for a member, $160 shipped. Could probably get him to make more but need to know quick.

Would Not exactly be pretty on the street but I don’t plan on ever running them on the street. Veteran track guy told me to just run them on the track, get them seasoned with track prep and not run them any where else, not even back and forth to the track for best performance and longest life. Going to try that this season

Just a heads up you might have to get longer studs. I was gonna try 8mm before the hammer & my shop said I would need longer studs especially for drag racing.
Maybe look into it for safety and so nothing goes wrong at the track.
Cheers looks awesome!

Yeah I drive my ET Rs on the street sometimes, and my OCD would drive me crazy with that much tire poke. One day I'll just have to man up and grab the hammer! I have these exact same wheels too. They are a 10.5 wide with 27 offset IIRC. I might switch to a 10" wide wheel with a 30 offset (Weld/Forgestar), I think they might help with the 315 better. Less hammering maybe, lol.

Thanks for the pics!

@Micah-OST Dyno

Is that rib the only thing in the way of fitting 315/50s? Those are Darkstars which are 9.5 inches wide, that enough wheel for a 315 tire? I'm running the racestar recluse wheels which are 10.5 wide with a 27 offset. Not sure if I'd have to hammer more or not. I know others have hammered and ran welds (10" wide 30 offset), just not sure from wheel to wheel how much of a difference it makes, especially how much more hammering might be required.

I take it removing that plastic section is a must (since the rib is in that area)?

You recommend any specific hammer for this job?

You have any side profile pics of tire poke if any?

Thanks for sharing the pics! I really want to fit 15s, just not too crazy about hammering, lol.

Non taken, like said, I wouldn’t run them on the street this way, don’t like the “stick out” look myself, but before I get the hammer out I want to be sure they do for me what I want, I’d hate to hammer my car and regret the reason afterwards.

Good point, Yes, longer studs are required, I upgraded to ARP studs cut to a custom length so I could use stock rims as well with OEM looking deeper nuts or open ended nuts at the track if needed, have ARP nuts as well.

Use a 1/4 drive E socket on wobble end extension, put the nut on the axle and push the axle in compressing the CV which gets the hub out of the way enough to get the socket on the E headed bolts. Don’t forget to tighten them first upon reassembly or you’ll be taking it back apart to tighten those same bolts. O, and dont forget to put the push nut pins that hold the E brake shoes on as theres no getting the one in after it’s all bolted back up. Don’t ask how I know both of these tips.

You know ....... When I did my rear wheel studs I don't recall having this much of an issue. I had no issues popping the wheel bearings out . Calipers off , rotors off , axle nut off , 4 retaining bolts out bearings on the bench. I have a large assortment of Etorx sockets and swivels .

I think it was around 2300 when I was putting the drums back in and one of the spring's sprung and I screamed out "You mother fucker" at the top of my lungs... pretty sure whole block heard me.

Yessir. 315's are a must this season.

I don't know why it fought me, I do know however that I don't enjoy concrete floor anymore, I'm buying a better built creeper for my fat ass and one of those nice stools, too fugging old.

You probably just had ”one of those days" .
In November I went to put the winter tires on my wife's dodge journey and wouldn't you know it one of the wheel studs stripped the knurling in the hub. Yes you read that correctly
I sat there with a die grinder and ground the nut and stud till the ALUMINUM wheel came off .
One of those days ............ One of those days
