Yeah yeah I know the wash and wax thread with many opinions and options. And this is not a question about PPF. I flip cars way too much to justify PPF which leaves me with wax the car option. Most of my vehicles sit out side with the exception of a few and I rotate a few inside and outside as well. My question to all here is what the average life of your wax or paint protection? And for many here you may not be able to answer this since you park your car in the garage all the time. I try and use many products all the time and damn if everyone of them IMO is smoke and mirrors. In hindsight I should have started my own Snake Oil Car Wash and Wax business. And damn i30 years ago I was selling a product called Dri-Wash’N’ Guard a Waterless Car Wash product. It was one of the first spray on wipe off a dirty car product that not only cleaned the surface but put a protective coat as well. I did this for close to two years knocking on doors and waking in and out of every automotive related business. It never gained traction to make me a decent living and had to move on. I detailed cars as well at that time and learned a lot about the car polishing and detailing business. Fast forward to present times and I regularly wash my cars now more than I did so many years ago. I use all types of cleaners and waxes and just this month I ordered a product called “The Last Coat”. And yes it presented as the longest lasting protective coat over anything else. I have applied this to two of my vehicles last night and tonight and have labels the dates to see just how long it lasts. I will be amazed if it lasts 3 months amd for the most part all the other waxes and protectants last about 2 months. Summing it up thought I would share and will look back in this post in a few months and give you my answer.

Why does the sticker say Top Coat when you used the Last Coat? I'm confused...curious how it lasts.

Wax is wax, as long as you don't just buy the psuedo-rain-x wash on kind in the drive through car wash. I've quartzed so I don't wax the HC; do wax the others. Supposedly. Really need to wax the 4x4 Expedition EL. I generally will buy a quality wax (as determined by Consumer Reports because I find their testing methodology spot on) and use it regularly. For the work cars, I am not above using the wax and dry products because I don't have the time or patience to work those like I've done my fun cars anymore. And the kids can help with those.

Wanted to see if you actually read my posting:geek: kinda like what David Lee Roth used to do. And this is a true story he would send the set up crew for the next tour a complete detailed manual on how everything was to be set up for the concert. In the very back of the details he would instruct to have a bowl of M&Ms waiting for his arrival. In the final details he said no BROWN M&Ms which was the attention to detail. Half the time he would arrive to the set up crew for the preview and sure enough brown M&Ms in the bowl which told him the set up crew screwed up something up as well.

I think a lot of it is snake oil myself. I try to use good products with Klasse All in One being my go to. I also use a waterless wash far more often than actually washing the car. My cars probably don't look perfect by a detailers' standards but they are generally clean and the paint stays in decent condition. I enjoy driving them far more than obsessing about every paint imperfection.

Yeah and no I don’t do it. Clear coat is the issues which containment’s get into it and it’s a challenge to bring back to pristine conditions being my cars see incredible environment issues. Many of my cars may sit for 2 plus months. It’s not worth the time and detail except for a select few of my cars.

I do think a lot of the waxes out there are more hype than help. I've used top shelf ones and average ones. It really comes down to a couple of things:
1. How much time you want to devote to the process
2. How much skill you have in detailing
3. How much joy it brings you in seeing the finished product
I am like most in that I enjoy seeing the finished product but obsessing about having the paint being perfect or near perfect all the time does take away from the joy of experiencing the car. When ever I sell a car, the new owner marvels at how great it looks and can't believe how it looks vs. other "like" cars they have seen and as they drive away in it, I question "why didn't I enjoy that car a little more and detail a little less"? Trying to change my behavior a bit before it's too late.
