The recent theft of a Dodge Charger Hellcat from a dealership in Detroit ended predictably. The Mopar was being stored on a lot on King Road, when it along with three other vehicles were swiped in early February. Then, in the latter part of February, police found the Hellcat on the side of a road, most of its parts stripped. For anyone living in or spending time around Detroit, that’s sadly a familiar sight.

Been an issue in every major city for decades - there has always been a huge black market for parts even big stuff like engines & tranny's.

Out here the bastards steal them, take out the engine / trans, doors and seats and then put them out where the police will recover them. Then they watch for them on Coparts and other auctions and buy the rolling shell for pennies on the dollar and reassemble / sell it with a salvage title. Well, they USE to do that a ways back but the cops caught on and tracked down the chop shop after the roller was sold. Haven’t heard of that in a long time...

I used to work with a biker in the 70's that bragged they would sell their bikes with a different bike's salvage title (same brand year and model)and then go steal it back from the new owners. Rinse. repeat.

Since i heard that.I always check vins etc for accuracy and tampering on anything I buy.
