In WNY we have our first restaurant hosting a cruise night. Its the second one of the year, and its pretty large (200 plus cars). I generally don't do many of them, and if I do, I stay an hour at the most. Last night I took the Demon, and had a friend of mine take my wife's C8. (I later found out I shoulda asked her first..) We parked about 4 spots apart. Now when I go, I go to check out all the cars and socialize. This cruise most of the people just break out the lawn chairs hang out in these little groups and chill. When I see a car that interests me, I always try to find the owner and get the low down. I got to this group of late model Corvettes, and noticed a 3 or 4 year old Zo6 with what I thought were unusual LED headlights,so I yelled out to this group of 5 or 6 very preppy looking couples asking whos car it was, this 60's something guy spoke up. I asked if the headlights came with that year vette. The guy was almost indignant, like he couldn't be bothered and just gave a smart remark, and went back to his conversation with his friends. So I just moved on. A half hour later I see this same guy with his powder blue I zod shirt, sweater tied around his neck, and loafers with those little tassels on em talkin to my friend that drove my wife's C8. It seems he gets a new vette every 3 years and was contemplating the C8 and wondered if he could sit in it to see how he fit (he was maybe 6'2"). My friend had to fess up and explain it really wasn't his car, and the owners kinda anal about his cars. the guy was almost persistent sayin Oh I'm sure he wouldn't mind I'm a Corvette guy. Now I have the utmost respect for peoples property, and I don't care who you are, keep your hands off my car..and that goes for your kids too, yeah I'm anal. So I walk over, my friend tells him I'm the owner, and this same "Corvette Guy", who a half hour earlier couldn't give me the time of day is grinning with his hand out wanting to shake hands, I listen to his BS about all his vettes he's had over the years, and then he pops the question, I look at him and say, that's your Z06 over there by that group of people, did your wife come with you tonight? He said yup were retired she comes to all the cruises, (now all the guys I was there with are holding their breath cause they know this isn't gonna end well) I'm pretty quick witted, and before you realize it. i've insulted you every way till Tuesday. So I finally say, I'll tell you what, c'mon back with your wife, let me see how my d*ck fits in her, and I'll let you see how you fit in my car....we gotta a deal or no...There may be a moral to this story...for those that don't get it...I'm a simple guy...You treat me good...I'll treat you better...you treat me bad...I'll treat you worse !
We should hang out. I had a Vette guy at the cars and coffee this morning tell me my Sublime Hellcat was to loud of a color. I said really, perhaps I should have drove my plum crazy Redeye Challenger. His jaw hit the floor. Then I very quickly said what’s wrong a black man can’t have 2 Hellcats? He just walked off. My friends and I all laughed out loud. 😂

Who gives a shit about the color of the car? People amaze me. I mean he's entitled to his opinion on it, but people are allowed to choose whatever color they like. Hot pink with neon metallic flake purple accents? Have at it. This constant undercurrent at so many of these events to conform is a turn off to me.

Sooooo many Vette guys seem to have a stick up their arse ! It's sort of expected like Mustang crashes at Cars & Coffee.
Personally, I've never been a huge fan. Especially since my brother was a big Vette guy for a long time. Probably bought & sold 8 or 9 of them over the years, all had 1 thing in common - CHRONIC maintenance headache !! He kept trying to talk me into getting one & I finally told him if I wanted a car that needed that much attention, I'd get something really cool like an old Jag E-type - LOL.

Anyway, F 'em - I've always been a Sublime fan & still wish I could have snagged one !

What happened to just living in the moment with people who enjoy cars (irrespective of make and model). Getting to know folks and learning about cars, etc. This judgment towards choice of color, etc. Too much social judgement in life anyway...people can't leave their arrogant, judging (I'm better than you and know more, etc.) bulls@#$t at home. Enough is enough...that isn't how I live my life and am sick and tired of it.

Pretty sure it wasnt the black thing. Anyone having two Hellcats normally makes jaws drop. Wish I had two for sure.

Now that was a MAJOR mistake.....hope you didn't tell your wife the story about the 'Vette a-hole too!.....

I hate to stereotype, but it really does seem that the Corvette guys are most likely to come off with the "elitist" attitudes. Not all, but there always seems to be one or two. But you really meet all kinds at some of these car shows.

Saw a sweet looking old Plymouth Satellite pull into a show once...thing sounded awesome. I could tell it had a big motor with a huge cam in it when he pulled in. It was back-halved with steam rollers on the rear with a roll cage....all the racing goodies. I found the guy that owned it...wasn't hard...he was a huge dude. Must have been 6'5" and well over 350 pounds I'd bet. I asked him what engine he had in it, and I can't remember exactly but it was over 500 something cubes.

I know big cubes mean big torque, so I asked him if he knew how much torque he was making. He then says loudly "who gives a damn about torque....its all about HP!". So I told him "torque matters a lot....and you got a lot of weight to get moving"...and I walked away.

I know it wasn’t a race thing and I don’t own a race card. I just wanted to mess with the guys head.

Some people adopt the Jekyll and Mr Hyde in a social gathering even without (instant ass just add alcohol) We all know the kind, got to be the big guy on campus. Two choices in that situation confront it right there, or take the high road and walk. I think you picked the best. But round two and coming into your campsite with more of his B.S. Richly deserve.

Weather it's a Vette snob or not why does someone have to make a derogatory remark about someone else's car? We all have our own tastes and what you like may not be my taste but I'm certainly not going to disrespect your choices. If you have a differing opinion and can't say something nice then shut the f**k up and don't say anything.

Just my .02
