My thoughts? Your putting a tire in excess of 12" wide on a 10" wheel and wasting nearly 2" of rubber.

Here, I'll pull out the picture of a 315 on a 10" wheel that is well done. You decide if the extra money for those 1" rubber on each side ever worked. IMG_0585.JPG

If you air down enough the rubber will not be wasted. Remember if your drag racing your airing down pretty low. A 315 on 17x10 would be OK. Some guys are running 315s on 17x9.5

If you are not using them for dedicated drag racing, 315s should go on an 11" rim.
On a 20" rim

@Markp is correct. It really depends on what the diameter of the wheel is, that'll determine if the wheel is too narrow.
If this was a 15" wheel, nobody would dispute it.

If you’re talking about running a 315/50-17 at 15 lbs on a bead lock.... 10 will be good. Don’t confuse what would be best for a shorter sidewall tire used for cornering at 35 lbs, with what is going to work best for a sidewall wrinkling drag tire.

315 on 10" wheel would be fine. I run them on 9.5" Race Stars. To me it's not just the width , it's the height of the tire too , with the 305 my car shifted to 6th gear b4 the end of the 1/4 mile , now with the 315 my car holds 5th gear all the way through the 1/4.

That looks like the rear tire on my old VMax years ago. Beautiful tread around the very lip but a baloney skin in the middle :D

The tire company in there specs does not recommend a 10 inch but sure is a lot of guys running them and the low et's are proof they work. Not sure for the street if i would do it. Drag strips do not have corners to go around at speed.
