The 1969 Cougar
Better looking than the earlier ones, and cleaner looking than the 1970.

Nice...and a decent car to invest in. Normally cars are a horrible investment unless you get a very limited production model....which the 500 is. I had a '72 Charger that I added hidden headlights to back in the day. Get the front bumper, grill and everything off a '71 Charger SE. Had a rocker switch to raise/lower the headlight flaps. (Dodge changed to electric motor operated hidden headlights in the 71-74 Chargers instead of vacuum control the older ones had)

The vacuum control always had problems. The electric motors were much better!

That was in the UK? Holy cow.
Yes, it was in the UK and I seem to recall sub £15K which would have been a good buy even 10 years ago. I didn't know that much about Mopars at the time and didn't appreciate the significance of the 500. Maybe if I had looked into it more I might have found it was a clone but looking back on the photos it was well done. Mortgage, job and life in general put paid to that one but I've kept the photos all these years.

I really like the ‘68 too, as long as no vinyl roof.

I don't dislike them by any means.
I actually prefer the Cougar to the Mustang up to '70.
I just think the '70 Cougar looks cleaner and more appealing from the front as well as the rear vs the '67-'68.
Maybe I'm biased because when I was a kid my step mom had a '69 XR7 with a 390 and later on a buddy had a 428 '69.

Yeah, early experience shapes opinions. My friend’s dad was a Lincoln Mercury exec. He brought home a ‘68 427, 390 hp XR7. We cruised Woodward Ave a couple weekends in it. Good times.
