Don't think I like my 3.09s

All I have to compare to is my '16 Challenger HC auto. This '20 REWB with 3.09s feels slower. I don't get that "Hand of God pushing me forward" sensation like the old car. Getting 14psi on the gauge....bumps 15psi occasionally, figure it's making the 90-odd extra hp.

Hit 183mph yesterday morning and it kinda stalled out. The old cat did that at around 192-193.

I got the 3.09s because I figured they'd help get overall ratio back when using the 315/50/17 tires on my DR setup. But still feels slow lol.

Am I retarded for thinking about swapping out to 2.62s?

Mine came with 2.62’s and when I put the 3.09’s in it was a big difference. I’m running the 315/35/20’s
Then I just had some mods done and I had the 2.62’s reinstalled for better/accurate Dyno test and drove the car with the 305/45/17’s and I instantly missed my 3.09’s. Then I changed tires to 315/50/17’s for more tire and really missed the 3.09’s. Finally got it back into the shop and had the 3.09’s reinstalled and she came alive again.
I think I’ve read somewhere the 3.09’s do take some mph off the top end. Not sure if that helps but I could tell big difference being stock with both differentials and built with both differentials. Love the 3.09’s💪🏼

You are correct about the MPH on the top end.

I still say that my modded 2015 Hellcat is quicker than my stock 2019 Redeye.

If youre a top end speed person then ya youre not going to like losing those last few mph. Comes with the territory. Simple physics. Changing the gears isnt adding hp and it directly affects top end.

Both are valid points if you normally go over 150 mph....

Maybe its changed, but used to be that cars making decent amounts of HP and TQ seemed to put more highway oriented gear sets in the rear since they have more than enough torque to get the car moving without spinning on takeoff so easily. Like they say, spinning ain't winning....I know that first hand unfortunately. Now if you can manage to get good traction, (better tires/suspension setup) -then the lower gears would help the 60' times correct? -Or am I way off base here?

This is interesting, I've almost bought the 3.09s a couple times, local dealer can have it in house for $800 for me, and they will install and I keep my warranty. But at the same time, I can barely floor it right now below 60 mph and that's with drag radials on it, so I'm still really undecided on what to do..

Agreed...I can see the car feeling more "lively" with 3.09's vs the 2.62's on the street since you have more torque multiplication with 3.09's. I can see having the feeling of extra power because you can spin tires more easily at lower rpm's? -Now get it to the ground without spinning and you have something....like with a really good set of drag radials or slicks better yet...

I'm not the expert by a long shot here, but shouldn't the 3.09's get you a quicker launch (assuming you can put the power to the ground & not just have a massive smoke show) and make you quicker to a given speed ?? Trade off being you lose a bit of top speed and MPG as you are running higher RPM's when cruising ?

I would venture a guess that if you were running bone stock (inc. tires/wheels) with full traction nannies on the 0-60 times would almost be identical since these cars put out so much torque the TC has to dial back the fun to keep the tires from spinning anyway.

Now if your looking at 1/4 mile. If your pretty much stock the 3.09 is the way to go. Once you heavy modify your car, you want the 2.62 gear so you can keep more power in the car down low.

LMI, 2.85 upper, 180 degree thermostat, Demon injectors, SC Spacers and Thermo Blanket, HHP 93 Octane tune, Transmission tune, Mid mufflers replaced with Dyno Max Mini Race Bullet Mufflers, DSS one piece driveshaft, Rear Diff Brace and Drag radials. That's about it for performance.

When your talking about the torque and horsepower these monsters have. 2.62 3.09 is kinda a not necessary mod. You have the power to launch the car already. 3.09's will give a early'er shift than the 2.62's. but 2.62's will cover the yardage quicker than the 3.09's If you have the power to stay in the RPM sweet spot, through out the shifts. You have no need for 3.09's I'm sure Dodge looked at this closely. when choosing 2.62's.

That has got to be more than the stock RE 797 only 90 HP difference between the two stock 2015 were 707

I picked up 1/10 in the 1/4 with the 3.09's.

I think in the 1/2 & 1 mile races the 2.62 is better.

Two other stock powered cats at my track can some what run with me.we are usually about a tenth or very little more apart in et.
One guy has 3.09. Last time we were there together he ran a 1.49 60' and I did a 1.50 60'. By the 330' mark I had made up any difference and by the 1/8 I was quicker. I was also about 2mph faster at the 1/4.
So I still argue that there is little to no benefit to a 3.09 on a stock car. If you see a big gain you may be doing something wrong with the 2.62.
As for driving around the 3.09 will feel more lively. But for me I like 8th gear at 65-70mph in street trans. If I'm in sport it hangs onto 7th and I don't care for that sound.
