I don't know why in God's name he drove it down there...

I highly doubt there were any spectators down there watching and taking pictures of him launching off the roadway with their phones.

Lucky to be alive that embankment they went off must have been scary AF. Maybe should stick with a base mustang or a RAV 4 for his next vehicle. Hopefully learned a valuable lesson.. pushing a car like that hard in the corners near a cliff.. probably a bad idea especially for a driver that obviously doesn’t know his car and lacks skill and was possibly under the influence.

As much as I am a diehard Dodge nut, it wasn't the cars fault (it's just the tool), it was the drivers fault (for also being a tool).

Can you even imagine the insurance claim and how long he will have insurance and or who would even offer coverage. I can here the conversation “yes I was pleasantly driving along and this guy in a Hellcat came up on me and he passed me and I was overtaking by the sound of the Supercharger and then the exhaust note which pierced my ear drums and the smoke coming off the rear tires drifting thru the hell a shish curve it was like a dense instant fog that blinded me and the next thing you know I’m looking at trees, rocks, birds, snakes, old kites stuck in trees, squirrels and then it’s like a horror movie as the car nose dives end over end my passenger is screaming words I never heard in my life and ear piercing. When the car finally stopped on top the trees I was miraculously able to dial 911. After awhile I hear helicopters and voices and once again I’m hearing language I’ve never heard before and then it’s like I’m out like a light. Anyways Insurance agent what’s my quote for my new Tesla since we know a Tesla won’t drive off the road and or let me texting and driving or even a nap time as well. And just so you know insurance agent my Tesla will smoke a Hellcat off the line and it’s all wheel drive so this will never happen again being I’m like those Prius owners and BMW owners who will never let someone pass me ever again cause if the Hellcat guy didn’t pass me I’d still be driving my Boss. Wow insurance agent why did you hang up hello hello....

Too much Fast & Furious movie watching, not enough wheel time? Can you imagine what it felt like when the car went airborne? Did time seem to slow down? Were they quiet and in shock or screaming? The impact and realizing you are still alive must have been intense, as was the pain I'm sure.

Hope they survive this and learn a lesson. Dry rotted tires, substance on road, or just over driving the conditions...thank God there are the brave 1st responders who risk themselves to help others. Getting the humans out of there must have been tough.

Just watched a youtube video of a bunch of guys that drove though the canyon and were hanging out a few days ago. Heck he may have been part of the group since they all had different makes. This is exactly the reason why they don't want you to "just cruise around" because you never no what could happen

I'm surprised mustang's aren't the highest insured cars. This guy, having a track variant mustang, probably took the corner without applying his brakes thinking the car will just corner fast.

Lessons were learned I hope, but he'll probably upgrade to a GT500 and do it again.

This reminds me of a couple of incidents of my youth, if I may share:
A friend of mine (about 20 years old) bought a '70-'71 LT1 (350 ci / 360+ hp / solid lifters) Corvette. He could barely afford the car; definitely couldn't afford the insurance (before the days of mandatory insurance). Had his fiancé out to dinner on the coast and was coming back over the mountain on a very dark, very windy road (at night). Putting the car through it's paces and comes around a blind curve and there, across the road is a very old, flat bed farm truck. Was trying to turn around; stalled; wouldn't re-start and no lights on. My friend had nowhere to go except off the road. Luckily they didn't go far down, but fiancé got hurt.

Then it was my turn, in my 1 year old, '70 Challenger w/440 six pack car. I was about 20 at the time. On a straight, frontage road to the freeway. Early on a Friday night, slightly after commute hour so no side traffic or any other. Had been driving on the center carb for two weeks, trying to save on fuel. Just hooked up the outboard carbs and was taking a close friend for a ride to remind us of it's power. Started at the far end from an idle and tromped on it. Lot's of burnt rubber as I went through the gears (automatic trans) to about 115. I knew a big dip in the road was coming up so I left off the gas pedal. The car kept going at full throttle! I started braking and the car veered toward the curb. I quick shut off the ignition and it went to "lock". When I went to correct the brake pull, the steering wheel locked. Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiitt! Up over the curb we went; down through a ditch covered in ice plant; up into the brush, shrubs, small trees and then bigger trees. Even though the high speed, it was VERY SURREAL! Got down as low as I could and watched the tree branches hitting the windshield and side glass. Bump, bump, bump, bump BANG(!) with an instant STOP. We came to a rest wedged between two big trees. My buddy had quickly turned over and buried his head in the seat. We both climbed out unscathed. Neither of us had seat belts on. The Lord was taking care of us that evening. Totalled the car of course. Only had it about 6 months. Way too much power for a kid that age. Although, my Red Eye is way too much power for me NOW, but I trust that my experiences over the next 50 years have given me better judgement these days.

I'll admit in my youth years, I just remembered (damn near 45 years ago), I did have one of those Mustang 2's! I must have wanted to be a road racer from way back, I remember that SOB spun out on an exit ramp. POS managed to clip an information sign pole and made the rear 1/4 look real bad. I guess you try to forget the real stupid items in your past. This thread and just a couple sips of coffee this morning brought back that memory. It was a cool car until an iddiot keyed it real bad on Biloxi AFB while I was gone for the weekend.

I honestly think it's the color. Grabber Blue or whatever it's called. Usually Mustang in those colors don't have the best of luck with drivers.

There was a nice GT500 in that color, with black racing stripes, some kid at my University drove it. Looks great far away. I remembered driving by it in the garage when going to class. Someone keyed the ever living shit out of it, right through the paint. This kid was known to flip the car into neutral in parking garages and scare the girls. Karma?

Also saw another one (V6) in Hawaii that landed in a ditch.

This. On that road, as soon as you realized you were going over the edge the terror factor would be off the charts. Says something that they lived - current car safety technology is freaking unbelievable.

as far as memories go....

did jump a car backwards over a drainage ditch and onto a freeway once (spun out at speed on the curving access road)....

a pretty serious spin out that ended up totaling the car (gravel at the exit of the turn while racing at night) - impacted so hard that a sign on the island was sheared off above the break away bolts which allowed the stub of that sign to rip the electrical and gas lines off the bottom of the chassis...

going about 80 with this dip shit biker roaring along beside the car kicking the passenger door while his friends in a 79 Ford Thunderbird tried to keep up with us. If I hadn't had the girls with me things would have gotten ugly fast, but I did warn him with the turn signal before running his ass off the road. Funny thing is his friends didn't stop for him but we lost them in short order.

Just caught this thread. Wow. Thinking of metal dashboards, no airbags, no seat belts and non collapsible steering columns. Ahhh..ouch?
