You younger folks should have been around in those days. That era built the foundation for the modern era that everyone enjoys today. No microprocessor chips. Just greasy hands and busted knuckles. And all of you would have thrived back then because they also had the need for speed. If you had a street car that ran in the 13's you were boss. If you dipped into the 12's you were the king.

And $4k was a lot of money back when $100.00 a week was a good salary.

Yep.....my neighborhood was stocked with muscle cars of all varieties, which was good because it was the chance to experience them all and see them being worked on. And as a grubby kid, the guys that had them didn't mind telling you about them or letting you help hand them tools and such.

MSRP on my 70 GoMango Challenger R/T 440 six pack four speed with 4.10 gears was $3966.

If I remember correctly.....my parents paid $2800 for their '70 Satellite, and $3600 for their '70 Road Runner.

A PVT E1 in 79 made a whopping 419 a month.

I'm not seeing that.

I've removed it.

My apologies to everyone.

born in 1959 I was a little too young to experience the hey day of muscle cars in the 60s and early seventies. I finally got my first hand me down car from the old man my senior year a 71 Fury3 with a 318 lol. but even in the late seventies, early eighties the hemi cars were skyrocketing in value. in 79 or 80 there was a pristine hemi cuda for sale at the firestone by my house, asking price was $25000 even back then.

I remember when you could still by a driver for $500 and a pretty decent car for say $1500. I remember looking at a 1970 TA Challenger on a used car lot that was $5000 in the mid 80's. Unfortunately that was still too rich for my E2 salary at the time... If I could only go in time back and buy it now - one of those "fishes" that got away...

I bought a brand new 69 383 4 speed Roadrunner coupe for $2,695 plus tags and sales tax. This was in September just before the 70’s came out and they wanted it off the lot. There was no charge for the delivery, any options or dealer prep. My car payment was $80.69/mo for 36 months.

I really wanted a 350/350 Nova SS 4 speed but couldn’t find one for under $3,150. That RoadRunner was a great car and virtually bullet proof. Been a loyal Mopar guy every day since.

$80 back in 1970 is like $550 today though
