Beware of potential Scams in the Marketplace

Please be aware of deals too good to be true while in the Marketplace.

The primary reason for the 50 post rule is to prevent brand new members from signing up and trying to immediately scam the Membership.

Be especially vigilant of members who are new and/or have very few or no posts.

You can further protect yourself by spending just a short time reading their posts and seeing how they interact with people.

50 posts that are all "great", "awesome" or other short responses can be a red flag. Yes I have actually seen this and had people say they wanted access to the Marketplace.

We do our best to watch for this, but it's not possible to catch all of them.

Finally, remember that you are ultimately responsible for any transactions that you engage in, whether you are the buyer or the seller.

I find this especially true of folks responding to wtb ads. They will often times refer you to a 3rd party saying they’ve got the part you’re looking for. Usually their first post having just joined the forum in order “to hook you up”. Painfully obvious really...

As our forum becomes more well known, we have been seeing more Scammers posting in the forums as well.

There is a filter on new members that sign up, and it's been lighting up lately, but again, it can't, and won't, catch all of them.

You can't get a legitimate degree in engineering for $150 off of the internet.

Say minimum 100 quality posts and atleast 1 reference from a long time member ( 1000 posts or more)

This is happening everywhere right now. It's been a big problem on one of the gun forums I haunt & a number of members have lost $$$.

Perhaps an easier to manipulate feedback system would encourage people to leave feedback more reliably? I’m as guilty as the next guy as far as not providing feedback for the few transactions I’ve had here. Luckily all good so far, but have dodged a few bullets as well.

Fixed the little slip for ya. For $150 that engineering degree may not be so accepted. I work with legit engineers all day that should have both their degree and license pulled in some cases!

Ive bought and sold a few things from the forums (over at the other one), one was a $2500 wheel purchase from a guy a few years back. Just have to be extra careful with everyone, google names, addresses etc and ask questions. If someone doesnt want to be forthright about anything than its better not to deal with them.

Perhaps on the signature a buyer-seller feedback score, Just an idea, probably easier said than done and once you get legit bad feedback on here your reputation is not going to be worth a plug nickel or as reliable as a glass of Onlogapo tap water,

Yes be very careful buying, at least this forum is pro active an available to help when a suspect scammer is pointed out. That "other" place is a magnet for scamming with no oversight..

I told him all I need is a photo of his picture I.D, with the item for sale, and a price.
