The 1966 AMC Marlin had a similar backend to the 1966 Charger.

From what I understand, AMC copied from the Charger and Mustang fast backs of the era and created the Marlin. But AMC wanted more headroom for those sitting in the rear seat, so they made their roof a bit taller.

Breaks my heart to say it but after 71 the only one making power in Detroit was Pontiac With the 455HO and 455SD were the game to beat they actually lied about real power the mills could really make, like taking horsepower reads at lower rpm and the like. At least Mopar put gen2 426 hemi away with respect and didn’t continue producing it in detuned form until it was a low powered smog pump with a big badge showing large displacement but could get out of it’s own way, like many of the other cars

Le olds that needed Mans, GTO, Trans Am's 1,200 HP back in the 70's un heard of. I was lucky to have rich friends. Even had a friend that had a Road Runner with the tail piece. Did what I could to retro fit with the back black shields. Wanted to have a shacker hood to complete but the hemi wouldn't work. They make 2 modles with the shackers but no the Hell Cat. Want fit unless//// yepper. Cut. Back when the 93 octane was 25 cents a tank fool. Higher school had a 455 Olds and guess whre you think it was built??? Olldsmar, Fl.
Hickster, Ol' buddy. You just reminded me of something I wanted to try and figure out. How to make a Hellcat fit with a Shaker.

I had a run of the mill '71 Charger as my first car. Loved that car. I do prefer the '70 body style, except when compared to my 2016 HC.

Very slippery shape compared to 68,69,70. Lessons learned from charger 500, Daytona, and Superbird. The 71, 72, 73 went through the air pretty darn good considering no 18“ nose cone up front to slice through air and less lift in back not requiring large spoiler, but it lost that classic flying buttresses that according to Richard Sias, And Bill Mitchell designers looked so right, making it look like a cock pit on top of car with the dual sharp C pillar flying buttress pulled back from the roof Line, then pinching down and back in to deck lid area, but that very look is what caused dirty air so to speak, causing drag and lift. along with recessed grill that looked awesome but also caused considerable drag. It just didn’t cut through the air well.
