Our Infiniti Q50 RedSport 400 is in the shop right now for this very issue, looks like the repair bill is going to be over $2500 - main engine harness chewed + numerous others, battery box, windshield washer hose for starters. They will be tearing into it tomorrow now that the ins. co. approved the claim & they are expecting to find more damage when they really get going :(

I wonder when the insurance companies will either raise their rates and/or require a rider for this type of claim.

Apparently it's pretty common. We've had this issue before (years ago) and now it's back. Not sure why we're having issues when none of our neighbors (all of whom leave out multiple cars, trucks RV's etc.) seem to have any trouble. Thinking it's got to do with the brand & how they make their wiring. Last car that got attacked was also an Infiniti. Never had an issue when the old Dakota sat out there & even the Honda we had for a while never got it, tho something tried to build a nest between the grill & radiator/fan shroud.

Have someone coming out next week to see about enclosing the carport to try & protect the car. Would love to add a free standing garage, but it would not be easy due to the way this house was placed on the lot.

It is fairly common. Some of the BMW's have a heavy, hard plastic, spiral wound encasement around engine compartment wiring just for this specific purpose.
