Wow look at this crock of crap. Who here is gonna pay $20-$25 a month for a digital license plate 😳. Does the monthly subscription fee include your annual dues for registration. If it does than still to high but if it doesn’t are you kidding me and for what a lighted up license plate Whoopi doo-dah.

Digital plates for cars, trucks, and fleets are already approved for sale in California and Arizona. Their clean looks come with a hefty monthly subscription fee.
It took a little longer than expected, but Michigan is now the third state where drivers can order a digital license plate for their cars. The digital plates, which are legal to use in all 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico, come with a monthly subscription fee of between $20 and $25, depending on the model.

Actually old news. I was reading about this last winter. I looked into plates just to see what it was about.

Just what the world needs - yet another simple, low cost thing replaced with a 'gadget' that comes with a subscription :poop:

Hope it doesn't become like the stupid XM radio crap where it is built-in and you have no choice but to pay for the device even if you are not interested in the service

Registration in AZ for my 2 Hellcats was about $1400 a year. For a damn sticker. One of the many reasons I left.

Cant wait to hack these.

And if it can track a stolen car, it can track one that's not stolen too. But then that is old hat with all the other BS connected electronic elements in the car (and your phone).

Criminals will love this. Especially getaway drivers. Hack the plate and change the license. They can probably do it instantly without even getting out of the vehicle.

One way or another they seem to get what they need. Granted some states just tax more, but I've lived in 4 different states, some higher/lower sales tax, some higher/lower with the vehicle registration, some higher/lower with property tax...state income tax same deal. Kind of can't win it seems, unless I'm missing something or a super sweet state? In my experience, New Mexico is overall cheaper than Ohio and especially Minnesota, West Virginia was also kind of a cheaper place. You do kind of get what you pay for in some of these instances though it seems

Michigan registration fees are high compared to many other states where I have lived. Love Michigan, but hate how they base their registration fee on the cost of the vehicle. As the vehicle ages, they only make minor adjustments to the fee. With Michigan being home of "The Big 3", you would think they wouldn't have a registration fee that penalizes owning. a new/higher value vehicle. Never understood how my vehicles are impacting the state of Michigan in a negative way vs. someone who drives a beater with the fenders hanging off and spewing black smoke out of the exhaust. We already pay the state more in vehicle sales tax based on valuation, not to mention the gas guzzler tax and have gasoline prices above the national average. It does beat living in Illinois though.

Now if I can just figure out a way to get them all classified as illegal aliens I'll really hit a windfall.
