1995 ZR-1 with 819 miles, sold for $50,000. Ha. They were $73,000 out the door in 1995. You do the math.

And the titanic performance figures? 4.7 0-60 and a low 13 quarter. Like my 1966 289 Mustang back in the day (admittedly not stock).

That seems super cheap. Was it rotted out or pristine?

Pristine my friend. Beautiful - for what it was. Untouched

I dont think that was super cheap. Those things have been sort of a bust. Back then I thought they would be impossible to find or afford down the road but now I’m seeing them from time to time and theyre a lot cheaper than I would have expected. This seems about right.

A lot of those sell in the $25-$35 range...and any 289 Mustang that could run with it would be very modified.

I was in love with this car when it came out.

Now I can't understand why, and not just from a performance standpoint, but moreso a styling standpoint.

Sure wasn’t much of an investment was it? What did it cost to keep it stored for all those years and never drive it? just look at it, sounds like it was a waste of money to me To whoever bought it in the first place and kept it that long hoping to make money on it that sure didn’t happen.

My brother was into them @ the time, but couldn't afford the ZR-1. I never cared for the styling & build quality was questionable.
I liked my turbo 300Z a lot more, better styling, WAY better build quality, not as much HP but more fun to drive IMO.

Not what I would call heavily modified, but then that is subjective. My point was more the storage, the denial of using the car when it was something special, and the taking a bath on something that was assuredly thought to be an investment.

If you go back and look at the sales figures what killed the ZR1 was actually another Corvette you can get a LT1 that at the end of the run that was very similar in performance for 37K. They shot themselves in the foot with that -plenty of other good sports cars (like the 300zx turbo) and if you were open to Corvette to begin with how do you justify about twice the price for only incremental increase in performance?

Its probably a $15k to $20k car maximum.

Being a chevy though, I personally would not pay more than $2500...I'm a former vette owner, so learned from experience.

There's a tool driving around here in my new neighborhood in a red 2019 or so, with a huge addon splitter (though the factory on the ZR1 was pretty huge to begin with) and has added time attack winglets on the leading edge sides and has a big 155 stenciled on the doors. Has some kind of aftermarket exhaust on it, but it sounds like crap. Which is really unfortunate. I've never really been a Corvette fan. I recognize this new car (2020+) as a great automobile, but to me it is not a Corvette. A corvette is always, for me, an american front engine, two seater with a weird and incongruous set of goods and bads.

I think GM trapped some of the buyers by promoting them originally as a limited production car that may only be a one year option? I knew one guy who bought s new one the first year and parked it as an investment. I don’t know what happened to it but he was fooled!

That guy was silly. No way any car company is spending 100s of millions in design and development and then only going to produce it for a year. Economically ludicrous. Like the one year only demon. But also available in the challenger and charger as the red eye, etc...
