Hi all..
Expertise needed (i am lacking)!
Wife's 2017 Charger HC A8.
Daily driver, no problems, driven yesterday no problem. This morning, she tries to start up, nothing but flash of starter button, but some dash notif. bring fob close. She tries few more times, no go.
She tells me and i go to try with my fob. Usual sequence, start button flashes, no start. Try the remote start, headlights flash no start. Think disconnect/reconnect battery, but trunk release on car and fob, no action. Pop hood. Disconnect/reconnect red pos terminal on passenger side engine bay. No change. Few more tries, then nothing at all. Shift knob lights (?) appear to be on, otherwise nada...
Ideas??? Dealer has no advise except appt in a week...

Is it recognizing the key fobs? As in, you're not getting a message in the instrument cluster telling you the key is not in the vehicle or something like that?

Absent of that message, I'd try jumping it and assume it's the battery.

When was the the last time you changed the battery in BOTH fobs? (make that all 3 with the black key)

Try to push the start button with the butt of the key fob, the end that isn't the pop-out door key. If the battery is dead, it needs to be that close to passively read the RFID chip.

Is that the original car battery? If so seems 4 years is a really long time in todays car battery world. Hell my 2019 Mustang GT just ate a battery only 2 years old no lie.

I was at dealer this morning and have a new battery. Seems logical place to start. Is there a manual trunk release, shy of crawling through from the back seat?

Not sure but would guess your crawling thru the back seat and or does the manual say otherwise.

The manual release in the trunk is it. Otherwise, hook the new battery (or another vehicle) up to the jump points under the hood. That should give you juice to pop the trunk with the button.

Tnx...i will try hooking battery to underhood terminals and see if trunk release works..

Replaced the battery in my son's '17 beginning of winter. Slow crank, didn't start once, and random weird electrical stuff when it started getting cold. We put the larger police version in. No issues since.

The batteries no longer have a pro rated return or warranty has anyone noticed this? Apparently the days of replacing batteries at a prorated rate are no longer. Guess the average life is just a norm and the battery manufactures have it down to a tee.

Battery hooked to engine bay terminals, trunk open by dash button. Good call! I knew you guys would come to my rescue. Now to see if battery replacement solves the rest.

That's pretty much what my son's did. Drove home from work fine. Tried to go out with friends that night...dead. So we charged it and got a couple extra days out of it, but it was doing weird shit still so we replaced it.

No more pro rating because a 6yr warranty was worthless after a few years.
I was told there was a law suit or something that caused the change.
I hated telling customer they had to pay for a battery before their thoughts of warranty were up.
The new way is much better. Free replacement is what the customers expected all along. Nobody reads everything. LOL.
The new problem is "no there is no longer a 7yr warranty" 🤦

Remember, don't freak out when some items don't work right away (backup cam, SRT pages, Uconnect might boot up in Chrysler blue theme at first). They will all 'load' and sort themselves out over the first few start cycles.
