California program is a Cash for Internal-Combustion Clunkers deal for people in lower income brackets.
We might have a new champion for the best place to live if you want to maximize the amount of government incentives you can get when you buy an electric vehicle. While everyone in the U.S. could be eligible for the federal tax credit worth up to $7500 for a new EV, states and cities have been offering various benefits in addition to the federal credit, and the revived incentive package from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) in California could reduce the price some residents pay for a new or used EV by a serious $9500.

An expansion to the Clean Cars for All incentive program was announced this week, thanks to $8.3 million in new state funding. Clean Cars for All was originally started in 2019 but was out of money until the state authorized new spending in this year's budget. The money will not be limited to just helping car buyers, either. Instead, the BAAQMD has developed a broad set of benefits locals can get if they voluntarily take their old, dirty vehicle off the road. These benefits include grants to buy a new or used hybrid or plug-in car, similar to the old Cash for Clunkers deal that was developed under President Bush and signed by President Obama, but people who take advantage of Clean Cars for All can also opt to get a grant to buy a new electric bike or simply a prepaid card worth thousands of dollars to ride local transportation. The BAAQMD isn't joking about taking old vehicles off the road, either. The final step in the grant process is taking the old car to an authorized dismantler, once you've gotten your new, greener ride.

California just makes ZERO SENSE and I mean like a BIG ZERO! Here is an overpopulation state with major droughts, water issues, electrical outages, Forest Fires, Illegals Galore, lawless governing, worst sitting politicians, biggest Government Assistance of any state, strictest Governing, highest taxes, highest home Prices, Strictest Environmental Laws. And now the most radical Ice Age anti movement in the country. But yet they have the most common out of control state wild fires that due incredible harm to the environment.

Wildfires release large amounts of carbon dioxide, black carbon, brown carbon, and ozone precursors into the atmosphere. These emissions affect radia]on, clouds, and climate on regional and even global scales.

But yet all the wackos focus on is ICE AGE just incredible the blind leading the blind.

So where is broke ass California going to get that money from? Oh I know, raising taxes. Now tell me why anyone lives there again?

They live there because its the strongest economy in the US. If CA was a nation it would rank as the worlds 5th largest economy.

$17,000 for turning in your old car is not bad. If I decide to buy a Plaid I'll buy a $500 clunker and turn it in in California :)

Japan had a different method of promoting changing cars. WARNING: some of this information is ~ 40 years old. In the past they drove new car purchases by making it almost impossible to keep your car for more a long time without paying significant costs. Some of those laws have been repealed, but there are still some taxes aimed at old cars (older than 13 years) and the shaken (an inspection every two years) is very expensive. Basic insurance, shaken, and automobile taxes can be about $18,000 per year (gas is more expensive as well). So you don't see POS cars rolling around nearly as much as in the US because it does not save you much money (and a greater sense of social stigma). And this doesn't include your proof of place to park or chushajo shomeisho. Before you can buy a car you have to prove you have a place to park it and it has to be within 2000 meters of your residence. (!) Space is limited in Japan. I have no idea what they are doing around promoting EVs. Need to reach out.

My info on CA is much more up to date (I'm plugged in there; me and Gary Coleman are tight, dawg).
