not a problem Ron, was paying you a compliment on your ability to get a stocker to go down the track.
I would just like to see what one would do stock that`s all. enjoy your cars as you wish! (y)
congrats Ron!!!!!!!! you certainly know how to get this platform down the track.
but I have a challenge for you when you get your second car an I think your the guy to do it.
show us what a (pure stock D170) will do off the show room floor.
pinion depth is the first thing you set with the carrier removed, which is the position of the pinion in the housing an how deep into the ring gear. then back lash then final is carrier side brg. pre load with the shims.
checking pinion depth is when you use the paste to see where the teeth line...
if your units are complete assembled diffs you will not be checking pinion brg preload. your checking how much it takes to rotate the whole diff. carrier included.
correct there like a bic lighter, throw away if there`s an issue.
when I replaced mine I found there was next to no preload but zero end play just from feel. if I was doing yours I would tighten till zero end play an tighten a bit more till you feel slight load on pinion rotation an if the brgs...
there is no torque for the nut, you tighten the nut till you achieve bearing pre load. tighten in small amounts till achieved. do you have the spec for pre load cause I couldn`t find it anywhere but I had no reason to take my flange off when I did my wave track. brgs. felt smooth with no end play.
