    Check it out... or don't

I did lane split in L.A. when I had Harleys, but did it differently than most. Since the shaving, newspaper reading, applying makeup, etc. was most common in the left lanes, I hung out with the tractor trailers to the right instead. If given the opportunity to know that I was there, I could...

    Air filter opinions

One problem with K&N filters is that people tend to clean them too frequently. They need to be a bit dirty to work well. "Well" still being a relative term.

    Check it out... or don't

There's two of them! That guy (gal?) that turned into the tractor trailer for no obvious reason reminded me of when a car did exactly that to my Pete. Except that he (almost) passed me on the shoulder.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Okay, so if they indeed do age now, why on earth wouldn't I get the freshest tires possible? I seriously doubt that I'll wear them out even on the 'Cat in six years, unless my driving style changes to lots of full throttle starts from a dead stop, or I start driving it a lot more. Speed rating...

    Dangerous incident today - tires

That cracked me up. So tires don't age when in a warehouse? It's just like that the oil doesn't go bad on the dealer's lot. Then, once someone buys their 'Cat, it has to be changed every six months.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Okay, so most major manufacturers recommend about six years max, up to 10 with commercial tires, yet it has nothing to do with age? Yes, there's a lot of confusion about tires, but now you have me completely confused.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

I would agree, if we were discussing bias ply tires. Delamination is usually the issue with aging radials, and is unfortunately not easily detectable by a visual inspection. Nexen tires, OE on Ram DRWs for example, are known to have come apart within 20,000 miles, or in under a year. No...

What did you do to your Hellcat today?

Today I did not wash my Challenger. But I had it washed, which is the first time since I bought it. Yes, the bird in the grille is gone now, by the way.

    2019 Challenger Redeye

That same myth is popular with Ram pickup batteries, too. If there are no removable tops (maintenance free), the battery somehow becomes an AGM type.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Did you notice that they made an assumption when decoding the "439" manufacturing date, saying that it means the 43rd week of '99 ? It may not matter much now, but 20 years ago it could. That tire could have been made in '89, or even '79, and that was the problem with using only three digits.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

It's been a 4-digit code on all tires since 2000, if memory serves me. There's a some interesting info in the factory codes, too, such as what plant the tire was made at.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Unfortunately, yes. But tires become NOS quicker than most other vehicles parts. And it's not only tire sellers. Many people these days call something "new" as long as it still looks good and works.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Every now and then I buy from Tire Rack, and when I do I always ask how fresh or old their inventory is. The place is too big for anyone to go check, but when they say "It's a popular tire/size" I know they won't be too old. So far it has worked out. Smaller outlets are usually even easier to...

    Dangerous incident today - tires

They were not an option when I looked around in mid '18.

    Dangerous incident today - tires

You've got some meaningful gonads having driven on those. I recently replaced a set of tires that came on a Jeep I bought. They looked near perfect, as they should with only some 15,000 miles on them. So why replace them? Because they were original, on a 2008. And I really only drive that one...

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Are you saying that you paid good money for tires that were already four to five years old?

    Dangerous incident today - tires

Wow. I'm amazed that the tire held air with the liner that severely damaged.

How many people daily a cat?

Good, you're on the right track, 1971. Now mosey on over and we'll get you up to speed. So to speak.

That inside shoulder wear only indicates that you don't take curves and corners anywhere near fast enough.

You should stop by here some day and we'll go get the carbon blown out of your poor engine.
