"Now per law enforcement they have a tool that they plug into the diagnostic plug under the dash to pick up the frequency as they’re pushing the start button on the car."

Maybe @Hpindy might know if this is true?

Scary if it's that easy.

I have never heard of this one(I dont steal cars lol) But i have heard / seen a key fob duplicator that can copy a fey fob from 100 feet or so away. No need to smash the window just push the button on the cloned fob. In my line of work i have retrieved a lot of CCTV footage of cars being stolen . Mostly infinity`s, Mercedes, BMW, etc. ,
I always recommend keeping the fobs far away from the car or get a box / cover to store fobs in . Cheap and easy.

LOL...figured with tuning experience you may have encountered how those key fobs work. Yikes if this is true.

Cars are rolling computers more than ever and the key fob transmitter has been an issue for years. Some people wrap aluminum foil around there‘s. I can believe the plug into the ecm plug inside your car capability.

There was once a model of RX7 that you could open in less than 5 seconds with a flat head screw driver. I do not steal cars, but I did open one. If that is true, FCA is a pack of idiots - there are ways to more securely protect against relay attacks. Hell, way back in the day we called this kind of thing a piggy back slurp. And ever since we went to keyless, it has been open freaking season. Like the phone company (and many militaries), no one ever thinks someone else can be as smart as them. Just got a set of keys made today for two of my non-proximity driven cars. Good luck stealing those sons of bitches. Almost impossible to get the keys to work (and that's with a master locksmith - one of the funniest and simple tricks as part of a layered defense - even after the key has been accepted by the car, the programming computer must remain plugged into the car with the key in the ignition for 10 minutes before it can be used). Simple, but effective.

My ex-wifes 2000 Dodge Intrepid was stolen with nothing but a flat head screwdriver in 2005. 😂

I think any car with the modern era fob are susceptible and the car thieves target them as such.
And plus 1 on the Infinity. Friend pulled into driveway and was unloading groceries into the house. Thieves timed it perfectly and took car.

Lol I knew what you meant . Unfortunately NO car is safe . I have seen CCTV footage of cars being stolen by tow trucks , the fob duplicator trick, breaking into the property and swiping the keys/fob, what must have been an inside job, etc.
The next question is what happens to the cars??
A very small percentage are "joy rides" . Most are either stolen for the parts or shipped over seas .

You thief... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Actually great advice. I was told to do the same with my fobs and still have not. Is there any particular box we should use like the rfid protection wallets or is a cigar box good enough?

Just do a quick Google search " key fob RF blocker " and will find everything thing under the sun . Do your research . I have my spare red and black in a RF blocker box put away because I never use them . During the winter my other red key goes in there too . During the summer when my car is on the road I put the my fob in a box with my wife's fob.

The boxes or wallets ,etc are relatively inexpensive. Just do your research first and stay away from the China junk !

You can get them with all sorts of fruity colors and designs if you want . My storage one is just black and the one my wife and I use is looks like this one . I get them from one of my supplies at work . . On a side note my car is always in my garage that has an alarm system and cameras lol .

Yes this a very important feature to have . It is dealt with by quick and severe punishment! Like going racing on the same weekend as her parents BBQ

How motivated do you think the manufactures are to better secure the vehicles they produce? If a car gets stolen, usually it is insured and another car gets purchased. Kind of good for them really?

It’s even easier than that. Just bring a few of your friends, start some fires, break the showroom windows and they’ll let you grab the keys right out of the box and drive them away by the dozens.
